DR. SUZANNE SCHNEIDER
Dr. Suzanne N. Schneider received her B.A. from Middlebury College and her Ph.D. in English Literature from Duke University. As an academic, she focuses on the intersections of race, gender, and sexualities studies and is best known for her scholarship on the aestheticization of black masculinity in 19th-century American racial science and popular culture. A two-time Ford Foundation Fellow and ACLS Faculty Fellow she has taught at both Amherst and Bryn Mawr colleges.
Outside of higher education, her career has been both varied and far-reaching. From work in the documentary film industry to research and consultation for network television clients, corporate entities, and large-scale, government-funded early education initiatives, she has remained committed to addressing issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity in both the public and private spheres. She currently serves as a member of the District of Columbia Public School’s Chancellor’s Parent Advisory Board and has been actively engaging with DCPS students in the classroom since her return to her native city in 2022.
